Know Your Deen as Well as You Know Your Passion

Many of us know our field inside out — accounting, medicine, law or engineering. We follow cricket and football closely, and can name every player in the squad and every star in the NBA. But ask us to name the Prophets of Allah, the Sahabah, or what each sūrah of the Qur'an is about, and we go quiet.

In the opening lecture of The Makkan Period, the teacher calls this a real identity crisis. “To destroy a people,” he quotes, “you must first sever their roots.” This is where you get those roots back.
